Growing insecurity and repeated gangr elated killings in Gwammaja community of Dala Local Government Area, Kano State, have triggered fears among residents, forcing over 500 women to gather for a special Qur’anic recitation and prayers for peace.
The women, who converged on the community amid rising tension, prayed for divine intervention against violent attacks and the killing of innocent youths allegedly carried out by hoodlums terrorizing the area.
Leader of the organizing group, Hajiya Halima Musa Abdullahi, said the initiative became necessary following persistent violence that has left many families in mourning and residents living in fear.
“We organized this gathering to seek peace and pray for an end to the violence affecting our community, especially the killing of innocent young people,” she said.
She lamented that criminal gangs now invade neighborhoods freely, attacking residents and creating an atmosphere of panic across the community.
Hajiya Halima also called on parents to take greater responsibility for monitoring their children and preventing them from being drawn into criminal activities and social vices.
The chairman of the “Dala Ina Mafita” group said local stakeholders had begun community based security efforts aimed at curbing violence and restoring peace.
According to him, poor parental supervision has contributed to the growing involvement of youths in gang related activities and violent crimes.
“Parents have a responsibility entrusted to them by God, and they must ensure proper upbringing of their children for the betterment of society,” he said.
One of the affected parents, Hajiya Aisha Dalhatu, whose son was reportedly killed during the violence, demanded justice for victims and urged authorities to take decisive action against those behind the attacks.
Participants at the prayer gathering also expressed concern over reports that some youths were allegedly burnt inside their homes during recent attacks, warning that the situation has deepened fear and anxiety among residents of the area.
