The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya, has commended the leadership of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel for fostering love, unity, and progress among journalists.
He made the commendation on Sunday at the Kano Press Centre during the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr Sallah Thanksgiving and Special Prayers organised by the Chapel to appreciate God for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and Sallah celebrations.

The NUJ President urged journalists to reflect on the true essence of the Sallah season by promoting unity, peace, and tolerance in the course of their professional duties.
Represented by a former Kano NUJ Chairman and member of the NUJ National Board of Trustees, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, Yahya expressed satisfaction with the activities of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel over the past year under the leadership of Comrade Murtala Adewale. He stressed the need for compassion, unity, and collective efforts in addressing national challenges, particularly insecurity and food shortages.
He further called on other NUJ chapels across the country to emulate the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, describing their unity and camaraderie as a model for strengthening solidarity within the journalism profession.
In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion, Professor Yakubu Mai Nasara Kurfi of the Department of Communication, Bayero University Kano (BUK), described the event as inspiring and heartwarming, urging the Chapel’s leadership to sustain the initiative.
Professor Kurfi congratulated the organisers and revealed plans to replicate similar engagements within the Faculty of Communication at BUK. He also advocated stronger collaboration between NUJ, practicing journalists, and the university to enhance training and retraining in the profession.
Also speaking, the Kano State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, represented by his Vice, Comrade Mustapha Gambo, said the gathering symbolised unity and togetherness among members of the Correspondents’ Chapel and the wider NUJ family in Kano.
“This event is significant as it brings together notable scholars and media practitioners. We commend the leadership of the Chapel for this initiative,” he said.
In his address, Chairman of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Murtala Adewale, described the event as a moment of reflection on Allah’s blessings, including the strength to complete the Ramadan fast.
According to him, Ramadan instills values such as empathy, humility, and discipline—qualities that align with the ethical responsibilities of journalism, including fairness, truth, and integrity.
He noted that the gathering also provided an opportunity to strengthen bonds among members despite the pressures of the profession.
Adewale encouraged journalists to sustain the lessons of Ramadan by promoting peace, responsibility, and understanding in their daily work, while also extending support to the less privileged.
