Associations representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State have commended the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for his inclusive leadership style and commitment to engaging all segments of society in government affairs.
The groups praised the Commissioner for creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue with stakeholders, including persons with disabilities, describing his approach as a demonstration of the Kano State Government’s commitment to ensuring that no group is left behind in the state’s development agenda.
According to the associations, Waiya’s willingness to listen to their concerns and involve them in discussions on public policies has strengthened their confidence in the government’s resolve to promote equity, inclusion, and equal participation for all citizens.
While expressing appreciation for the Commissioner’s efforts, the associations appealed to the Kano State Government to expedite the implementation and operational take-off of the Kano State Disability Commission.
They noted that the full commencement of the Commission would enhance the protection of the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, improve access to essential services, and ensure the effective implementation of policies aimed at empowering the disability community across the state.
The associations further urged the government to sustain its inclusive governance approach by giving persons with disabilities a stronger voice in decision-making processes and ensuring their active participation in programmes and initiatives designed to promote sustainable development in Kano State.
