The Kano State Taskforce on Voter Registration has called on registered political parties to intensify grassroots mobilization and public awareness campaigns to ensure that all eligible citizens participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Speaking at a dialogue with registered political parties held at the Kano State Library Conference Hall on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and Political Parties, Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma, described political parties as indispensable partners in strengthening democratic participation.
Chiroma said the engagement was convened to provide a platform for collaboration, information sharing and constructive dialogue aimed at enhancing the success of the voter registration exercise across Kano State.
According to him, political parties have a critical responsibility to mobilize citizens, encourage peaceful participation and ensure that eligible voters obtain their voter credentials ahead of future elections.
“The success of voter registration depends on our collective commitment. Political parties, civil society groups, government institutions and community leaders must work together to ensure that no eligible voter is left behind,” he stated.
The chairman emphasized the need for sustained awareness campaigns, especially at the grassroots level, to address challenges that may discourage citizens from registering.
He commended the Kano State Government, the State Taskforce on Voter Registration, civil society organizations, development partners and other stakeholders for their continued efforts toward promoting inclusive democratic governance.
Chiroma urged participants to use the dialogue as an opportunity to offer practical recommendations that would strengthen the registration process and improve citizens’ participation across the state.
He expressed confidence that stronger collaboration among stakeholders would further increase voter enrollment and deepen democratic engagement in Kano.
The dialogue forms part of ongoing advocacy initiatives by the State Taskforce to encourage mass participation in voter registration as preparations continue to ensure that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
The chairman, Inter party Advisory Council, IPAC Alhaji Isa Danfulani restated the commitment of political parties in ensuring a people oriented Democracy.
He described the initiative as impressive and pledged continued support.
