The Labour Party has announced that its presidential primary election will hold on May 23, 2026, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In a major disciplinary move, the party suspended 25 members over alleged misconduct, including breaches of party rules. The decision followed a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Tuesday, which was observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party said it would submit the final list of members to INEC by April 15, 2026, while primaries for governors and lawmakers are scheduled for May 15, 2026.

The NEC said the suspensions followed recommendations by the Party’s Peace, Reconciliation, and Disciplinary Committee, after some members were found to have violated internal rules, including unauthorized entry into party offices.
The party also announced plans for enhanced membership registration, combining digital and traditional methods, especially in rural areas, to strengthen transparency and democratic governance within the party.
Endorsement of Leadership
The NEC reaffirmed support for the acting leadership of Nenadi Usman, recently confirmed by the Supreme Court. The committee also endorsed the work of the National Working Committee, the party’s Security Council, party leaders, and Alex Otti.
Call for Unity
Labour Party urged members to use internal channels to raise complaints, stressing the importance of unity and peace ahead of the 2027 elections.
