As part of sustained efforts to ensure that no eligible voter is left without a valid Permanent Voter Card (PVC), the Sub-Committee on Engagement with the Business Community under the Kano State Task Force Committee on Voter Registration Mobilisation paid an advocacy visit to Yan Lemo Market, Na’ibawa, the largest fruit market in Kano State.
Welcoming the delegation, the Chairman of Yan Lemo Market, Alhaji Muhammadu, expressed appreciation to the Committee for identifying the market as a strategic partner in the mobilisation campaign. He commended the initiative and appealed to the Kano State Government to facilitate easier access to voter registration for traders and business owners, considering the nature of their daily commercial activities.
Addressing the traders, the Chairman of the Sub-Committee, Alhaji Tijjani Abdullahi Sarki, stressed that obtaining a Permanent Voter Card is both a civic responsibility and a constitutional right. He explained that the ongoing registration exercise is open to first-time registrants, young Nigerians who have attained the age of 18 since the last registration exercise, persons seeking transfer of their voting location due to change of residence, those requiring correction of personal information, and citizens whose voter cards are lost or damaged.
He assured the traders of the Kano State Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote wider voter participation and pledged that the concerns and requests presented by the market leadership would be forwarded to the main Task Force Committee for necessary action.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Sub-Committee, Alhaji Hassan Kofar Mata, thanked the market executives and members for their warm reception, patience and active participation. He responded to questions raised by traders, particularly on the procedures for transferring voter registration from one Local Government Area to another, correction of personal records, replacement of lost or damaged voter cards, and other voter registration-related issues.
