Kano stood still on Sunday as large crowd of mourners gathered at the Yankaba Cemetery to bid farewell to the late President of the Harmonized National Traders Association of Nigeria (HANTAN), Alhaji Bature Abdulaziz.
The respected traders’ leader, who died on Saturday at the age of 76 after a brief illness, was laid to rest following funeral prayers at the Yankaba Juma’at Mosque at exactly 10:00 a.m.
Alhaji Bature Abdulaziz served as the National President of HANTAN, representing traders and small business owners across the country. Throughout his leadership, he was known for his tireless advocacy for economic empowerment, unity among traders, and the growth of small and medium enterprises in Nigeria.
From Kano’s bustling markets to national trade platforms, his influence was widely felt. He was not only a businessman, but a bridge between grassroots traders and national economic policies.
Among those who attended the burial were renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Tijjani Bala Kalarawi, his neighbour and Chairman of Premier Radio, Alhaji Abba Dabo, alongside many other dignitaries.
Born and raised in Kano, Alhaji Bature Abdulaziz rose from local market leadership to national prominence, earning respect for his humility, discipline, and commitment to community service. His life reflected a rare combination of faith, enterprise, and public service.
As his body was lowered into the grave, prayers echoed across the cemetery.
Alhaji Bature Abdulaziz is survived by family, associates, and thousands of traders whose lives he touched through his leadership.
