The appointment of Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota as the Acting Head of Service of Kano State by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on March 10, 2026, is both historic and a strategic decision in the right direction.
Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, who hails from Yakasai Quarters in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, is widely regarded as one of the finest female technocrats Kano State has produced. Over the course of more than three decades in the public service, she has distinguished herself as an astute policy maker, a seasoned public administrator, and a dedicated professional. Before her latest appointment, she served as Permanent Secretary and has built a reputation for competence, diligence and integrity.

Known for her calm leadership style and administrative acumen, Maimota has served the Kano State government in various capacities over the years. Her contributions have earned her recognition as a respected, tested and trusted administrator within the state’s civil service. Indeed, she has been among the reliable pillars supporting the effective functioning of the public service system in Kano.
Her appointment as Acting Head of Service by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reflects confidence in her ability to manage the demanding responsibilities of coordinating the state’s civil service machinery. It is also a recognition of her unwavering commitment to duty, vast experience and exemplary record of service.
Maimota’s professional hallmarks—trust, resilience, loyalty, diligence and reliability—have consistently defined her career. Prior to this role, she served as Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration and General Services (AGS) in the Cabinet Office, where she contributed significantly to policy coordination and administrative management.
Beyond her personal achievements, her appointment also sends a strong signal about the present administration’s commitment to promoting women in leadership. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s decision demonstrates confidence in the capabilities of professional women and recognition of their important contributions to the development of Kano State.
