Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, a former governorship candidate in Kano State, has resigned from his position as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).
In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna stated that his decision takes immediate effect. He explained that the move was in compliance with a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requiring political appointees to step down in line with provisions of the Electoral Act ahead of upcoming political activities.

“I have taken this step in strict adherence to the President’s directive and the requirements of the Electoral Act,” he said.
Gawuna expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of the bank and the country at large.
He also noted that he has placed his future “in the hands of Allah (SWT),” while seeking divine guidance on his next course of action.
The former chairman assured that he would ensure a smooth transition, pledging to hand over responsibilities in accordance with established procedures.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Gawuna may be preparing to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following talks with former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. However, there has been no official confirmation of this development..
