Kano State Govt To Spend N6.9 Billion On Development Projects, Programmes

Kano State Government says it will spend over N6.9 billion on the execution of key projects in various sectors and implementation of programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people of the state.
The state Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs,Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya,disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the 36th meeting of the State Executive Council held on Wednesday, December 31,2025.
Wayya said the execution of the projects and the implementation of the programmes would also accelerate socio-economic development across the state.
“The State Executive Council deliberated extensively on critical issues of governance affecting various sectors of the state and consequently approved a total sum of ₦6,900,915,838.99 for the execution of key projects and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people and accelerating socio-economic development across Kano State,”he said.
During the meeting,he said, the council approved the sum of ₦859,217,654.35 for the payment of compensation to owners of structures affected by the construction of a 5-kilometre dualised road in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, adding that the approval is under the supervision of the state Ministry of Land and is intended to ensure fairness and smooth project execution.
To address environmental challenges and improve flood control in the state, the commissioner disclosed that the council also approved ₦358,473,978.73 for the construction of storm water drainage and culverts at Tudun Wuzirci in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, to be executed by the state Ministry of Environment.
According to him,the Works sector received the largest share of the approvals due to the strategic importance of road and drainage infrastructure, as the council approved ₦896,052,327.46 for the reconstruction of a failed multi-cell box culvert along the Kiru–Alhazawa–Bellon Koki Road in Kiru Local Government Area.
Additionally, he said, approval was granted for the construction of the ‘Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road in Nassarawa Local Government Area at a cost of ₦2,619,690,830.10.
Furthermore, the council approved ₦1,207,398,700.89 for the construction of a 10-cell reinforced concrete box culvert and other hydraulic structures along the Karari–Kwaimawa–Santar Komau–Badau–Dutsen Karya–Gima Road, all under the supervision of the Ministry of Works,Wayya said.
“In furtherance of the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment and skills development, Council approved ₦431,658,000.00 for the graduation ceremony and provision of empowerment kits for beneficiaries of selected Entrepreneurship Institutes across the state. The programme will be implemented by the Steering Committee on the 26 Entrepreneurship Institutes.
“To improve access to potable water within the metropolis, Council approved ₦85,560,603.98 for the extension of water pipelines within Greater Kano, specifically in Gwale Local Government Area, to be handled by the Ministry of Water Resources.
“In the education sector, Council approved ₦285,174,743.48 as a reviewed estimated total cost for the construction of storey blocks of four classrooms with offices across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state. This project will be executed by the Ministry of Education to enhance learning infrastructure.
“To strengthen transparency and accountability in public service, Council approved ₦157,689,000.00 for the conduct of a workshop on anti-corruption for all State Directors (Batch 3). The programme will be coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
“On policy matters, the Executive Council approved the transmission of the following bills to the Kano State House of Assembly for passage into law: the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025, the Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025, the Kano State Education Bill 2025, and the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Law 2025, which seeks to rename the institution.
“Council also approved the implementation of the reviewed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and Manual for Kano State, as part of efforts to attract private sector investment,” the commissioner added.
