Global Peace Ambassador, Zubairu Dalhatu Malami, has called on governments, civil society organisations, youth leaders, and citizens across the world to recommit themselves to peacebuilding as the world enters the year 2026.
In a New Year press statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Ambassador Malami described the beginning of 2026 as a moment of reflection, hope, and renewed responsibility, noting that the past year exposed the fragility of peace at both local and global levels.
He warned that rising insecurity continues to threaten lives, disrupt development, and weaken social trust, stressing that peace must be pursued deliberately and consistently.
“Peace is not a passive wish; it is a daily choice,” Malami said, urging individuals and institutions to speak out against injustice, invest in dialogue, and uphold the dignity of all people. According to him, insecurity often thrives in silence and exclusion, making inclusion and empathy critical tools for sustainable peace.
The Global Peace Ambassador called for stronger collaboration among governments, community leaders, and development partners to build violence-free societies anchored on justice and mutual respect. He emphasized the need to empower youth and women while strengthening early warning and community resilience systems.
Malami reaffirmed his commitment to peacebuilding efforts across Nigeria and beyond, revealing ongoing partnerships with institutions such as the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), AUDA-NEPAD, African Policy Research Institute (APRI), and Zamkah Technologies.
He expressed optimism that with collective action, conflicts can be transformed into cooperation and fear replaced with hope.
“As we welcome 2026, let it be a year of bold peace actions, not just words,” he said, calling on humanity to rise above divisions in pursuit of a safer and more compassionate world.
Ambassador Malami concluded by wishing people around the globe a peaceful and prosperous New Year, expressing hope that peace would guide global actions throughout the year.
