Give Us Our Entitlements’: 176 Retired Immigration Comptrollers Sue Minister, NIS Boss

No fewer than 176 retired Comptrollers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have dragged the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and other top government officials before the National Industrial Court over alleged denial of their retirement benefits.
The retirees, led by Abalaka-Betty Ajuma, filed the suit marked NICN/ABJ/146/2026, accusing the authorities of failing to honour statutory entitlements due to them after retirement.
Also listed as defendants are the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap; the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIS); the leadership of the Board; and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
According to court documents filed by their counsel, Maroof Giwa, the retired officers argued that under the 2015 Unified and Reviewed Conditions of Service governing the Nigeria Immigration Service and allied agencies, Comptrollers are entitled to an official vehicle and the services of five domestic aides upon retirement.
The claimants maintained that despite meeting all conditions required for the benefits, the government has allegedly failed to provide the entitlements.
They further alleged that repeated reminders and pre-action notices sent to the relevant authorities yielded no response.
The aggrieved retirees are asking the court to declare the continued denial of their benefits unlawful, unconstitutional and wrongful. They are also seeking an order compelling the authorities to either provide the official vehicles due to them or pay ₦15 million each as replacement value.
The case, assigned to Justice Rakiya Haastrup of the National Industrial Court, is slated for hearing on June 23, 2026.
